Any ideas?

I have no idea from where this originates? I've owned it since I was a little girl. It says 1949. I've tried looking at a world map to recognize the island, to no avail.

US Stamps - Washington/Franklin

I obviously can tell which president is which and that's about it!
There are 843, seriously, I'm hardly exaggerating, different Scott numbers associated with these stamps and I have no earthly idea which is which. Well, beyond coil or sheet. The joke is some are worth .25 cents and others, $250.00+ I'm willing to be mine are all .25 but well, it would be nice to be able to figure it out eh?

Another find from my antique store stop today

A lovely plate block commorating the US Postal Service with "information" on the gum side.

Banner day at the Antique Store

Bob & I went out into the county and stopped at a small antique store. I picked out a few post cards and one turned out to be $5.00! I asked why and was told it was a hard card to find. I told the gentleman I wasn't buying them for postcards but for the stamps. He then showed me a box of stamps and I bought the whole thing for $15.
These 1948 Canada issues were in there along with tons of USA 1970's plate blocks and some covers. I'll be doing a lot of posting!

1909, Netherlands, real photo, postcard

Real photo cards are a bit unusual for this time. This card was mailed August 31st, 1909 in Amsterdam and apparently received September 3rd, in London Ontario! If you read the London date differently, let me know.

It is especially interesting that this was mailed on and noted as the Queen's birthday.

WWI, Camp Shelby 1918

This is from a man serving at Camp Shelby, to his sister. He comments that he wishes she was there to wash his dishes! He further states that the picture on the front is their "chow wagon" when away from camp. (Stamps, a nice pair of 1 cent Washingtons)

1927, marriage certificate, Derby England

1929 Maritime Air Pageant cover

First Maritime Air Pageant, July 1st, 1929. Sydney, Nova Scotia to Moncton, New Brunswick. In rough shape, but a nice one to have. The stamp is perfect.

Western Australia, 1906

Cancelled in both WA and Ontario, with a lovely painted view card of Perth on the front.

Admiral Issue

The 5 cent, blue is a nice Maple Leaf cancel. The 2 cent red, has a Union Jack cancel.

Colour shift, Canada, Environment series, 1977-78

Compare the bottom right to the top left stamp. Look at the positioning of the word "postage" in the top right and the number "1" top left of the stamps. You can watch them work their way up the stamp until they are outside the margins. You can also see how the word "Canada" along the bottom moves up.

Queen Victoria, penny reds

Some odd stamps

1970's Canada, Landscape series, 25 cent, 2 pre-printing creases

Some old postcards with auxiliary markings

I like the US stamp and cancel, tied by the Canadian Postage Due stamp and Ontario cancel.

Soldier's free mail. The recepient, Caroline Henderson was an American Icon during the depression. Her articles from Atlantic Monthly and letters, have been published as a book; "Letters From the Dustbowl" I have many postcards to/from her.

US Army Postal Service, soldier's free mail. Passed by Army Examiner.

Now this postmaster was confused! Got 10 more cents in postage, needed 14 (in pen), asked for 2 (in red stamp) and for 3 (or is it a 5?) (small circle stamp.)
